Put a room full of children together with a box full of dress up clothes and watch the fun begin! There are few games that can rival the creativity and fun that kids costumes offer. It seems every little girl is thrilled to dress up as a princess, with glittery jewels and frilly dresses, and what little boy can resist a pirate hat and a play sword. Ordinary places and ordinary days can be transformed into magical times, with the imagination of the child being the only limits. A new trend that I think is fabulous, is dress up birthday parties, or themed parties. There are a couple of ways that a parent can offer this for their children. There are party companies springing up, that can offer you everything you need for your themed party to rent. This could include dress up clothing, games and table accessories, all themed for a princess, medieval and many others. The cost would be per child, but be sure to ask as there are usually a minimum number of children needed. A similar party on a smaller scale could be organized by you. Simple inexpensive dress up items such as sequin tiaras and wands, boas, knight helmets and swords can offer a very welcome “take home” gift for your guests, and parents will welcome the alternative to traditional candy loot bags. This is a great way to have your dress up birthday party and take care of the thank you tokens at the same time. Many daycare facilities are also installing dress up trunks as part of their creative play room. It is not unusual for a little girl to spend a good part of the day in a fancy, glittery skirt and tiara while she dreams little princess dreams. There are many companies creating kids costumes, they are certainly not just for Halloween anymore. The quality can vary greatly, so choose carefully. If you hope a little outfit will provide days and weeks of play in a daycare environment, it will have to begin as a better quality garment than a Halloween costume that you plan to have your child wear for a few hours Halloween night.
