The Timeless Appeal of Superman and His Friends

From his early days in the world of comic books to the many
movies and television shows of the past several decades, few
characters have captured the imagination of the world the way
Superman has. Superman means many things to many people of
course. To some people Superman is a great hero, fighting crime
and injustice wherever he goes. To others Superman is a symbol
of all that is great about the country, and it is no wonder the
Superman character has enjoyed such a lasting impact.

While the Superman character of course began life as a comic
book character, he quickly outgrew that medium and became known
around the world not only as a comic book character but as a
movie star and TV star as well. In addition there were and
continue to be a large number of products featuring the famous
Superman character, from lunch boxes and other school supplies
to all types of clothing.

Superman has had an enduring appeal ever since the first
Superman comic book appeared, but for many people it is the
movie version of Superman that is the most famous and the most
beloved. Many people around the country and around the world
fell in love with Christopher Reeve as Superman, and for many
people this character continues to be the quintessential
Superman portrayal. There have been of course many other
Superman movies throughout the year, and many of those movies
are incredibly popular with all kinds of people.

Of course the appeal of Superman is not limited to the big
screen. On the small screen world of television Superman is a
frequent character, and the TV show Smallville continues to be a
staple of TV around the country. The many portrayals of Superman
throughout the year, from books and movies to comics and TV
shows, have continued to endure this wonderful character to the
hearts of young and old alike.

The enormous success of comic books, in conjunction with the
great success of the many movies based on those comic books and
graphic novels, seem to ensure that Superman and his friends
will have a bright future as well as a powerful past. There
seems to be something in our character that loves stories about
superheroes, and when it comes to superheroes there are none who
are as big and as powerful as the Man of Steel. Whether you love
the comic books, the movies, the TV shows or all of them, the
world of Superman is one of the most intriguing and the most
timeless.
